Top tips to keep your office toilet clean and safe for everyone

The workplace is usually one of the busiest places and one of the most common facilities used is the toilet. But, despite the fact that all office employees and visitors go to the loo regularly, it can be one of the least things that they worry about.

The truth is that hardly anyone discusses the toilet. It serves one purpose and one purpose only: for relief as well as for some for other personal hygiene needs. Conversations that are made in the toilet are usually short compared to the ones that happen on the office floor or in other areas. More often than not, only the cleaner or the caretaker will really give it a thought.

Unfortunately, taking the toilet for granted also means that millions of bacteria living and breeding in it are not a concern. But, whatever is found inside your office’s toilet, will definitely be carried and spread around the office as well.

Here we provide some quick and easy tips to make sure the office toilet does not end up being a bio-hazard for everyone!

  • Soap or liquid soap dispensers are essential in public toilets and they are usually provided in office toilets too. Remember, washing hands to thoroughly clean them requires soap. If dispensers are dirty and are not kept in good condition, they will not work as well.
  • There should be seats for every toilet that is meant to be sat on. Regularly check the condition of these seats to make sure that the hinges etc are still intact. They must be well-maintained and kept clean. If possible, provide seat covers.
  • Toilet paper should always be available. It is also a good idea to provide disposable paper towels, cloth towels and hot air blowers that are in good working order. Keep the bins in check to ensure that overflowing rubbish or used toilet paper and towels do not create an unhygienic situation.
  • Always provide a checklist or task list for the cleaner or caretaker of your office toilet. Usually, this checklist comes from the Health and Safety Adviser or Facilities Manager.

Finally, keep your office toilet smelling fresh and clean all day. This encourages everyone who uses it to maintain its cleanliness.
