Carpets are placed around the house because they give a fresh and elegant statement to a room.
How do you deal with those really annoying carpet spills that can happen at any time? Firstly – don’t panic and read our top tips on how to deal with the spill and minimise the long-term damage.
Accidents happen all the time to everyone, no matter how careful you are. We deal with our customer’s carpet spills almost on a daily basis. But we are not always there for them at the point of the spill, so instead, we leave them an informative sheet that helps them deal with the emergencies themselves:
First of all, don’t panic. If the spillage is a drink then get some absorbent kitchen towel or other material and soak up as much of the liquid as possible. If the spillage is food then remove the food from the carpet carefully and then use absorbent kitchen towel to soak up as much of the remaining liquid and or sauce as possible.
After this, when you have got out as much of the liquid as possible with the towel, you can start working on the remaining residue. Many of our customers have an RPC carpet spotting kit which works very effectively. Please be really careful with any Supermarket brands that may contain bleach and other strong cleaning substances.
Instead of going for the usual “supermarket brands” you can add a small amount of washing up liquid to a cup of warm water and then use a white cotton cloth as follows. Allow some of the solution to soak into a part of the cloth and then apply the cloth to the spill working from the outside of the spill inwards. Always blot the spill and do not rub the carpet as this can cause pile damage to the surface of the carpet. This may take you a bit longer, but the results will be much better. Continue this dabbing process until you reach the centre of the spill.
Should the spill still be evident then feel free to call us in to help. By following the recommendations above you will not have caused any more damage and you just might need our expertise to solve the problem.
