Have you heard of the running phenomenon sweeping the nation called the “Parkrun”? I don’t just mean a quick jog in the park!  Parkruns are organised events that happen every Saturday morning at 9am in the UK and worldwide.

Many of my clients have been talking about doing the “parkrun” so I thought I would look into this and find out a bit more.  Basically, it is an organised 5km timed run that takes place in various local parks around the world and it is FREE! It is open to everyone, any age group and kids as young as 5 are running. You sign up via the Parkrun website ensuring you print off your personal bar code which you need at the event.  Once you have completed the run, you are given a place token. Together with your personal bar code these are scanned. Later on in the morning your times are either sent via SMS or emailed to you.

Parkrun is a great community event that is open to all with a huge range of running abilities but with a friendly atmosphere. Parkruns give beginner and casual runners a fun and easy way to get fit. To keep you interested, T-shirts are awarded after passing the 50 and 100 parkrun milestone by their main sponsors.  Children receive theirs after completing 10 runs.   Are you taking part each Saturday?
