The general cleanliness of your home should be one of the top priorities especially if you have children living with you. There should be no compromises when it comes to the health and happiness of your family.
Regular mopping, sweeping, and dusting help in maintaining a germ-free environment. Looking after the hygiene of your pets as well as their surroundings can go the extra mile as well. Maintaining the polish on hardwood floors as well as steaming and disinfecting the carpets are usually a priority on the list. Everything that is easily seen by the eyes and involves high volume traffic and activity in the household is given top priority when it comes to cleanliness.
Most homeowners do take extra time and special care when it comes to cleaning the bathroom and kitchen as well as the floors and every other nook and cranny found in the house. However, despite the thoroughness of your cleaning, there is probably some household stuff that you may have missed.
It’s not because you are sloppy or you’ve disregarded these little but important things, it just so happens that these are the things that most of us do not necessarily look into regularly. Try to go down this list and see the household objects you should be cleaning but most probably have missed:
1. Toothbrush holders – Yes, you use your toothbrushes regularly to clean your teeth. In fact, you remind your kids daily to do so before bedtime and before leaving the house. You must also have asked them to clean their toothbrushes after using them. However, have you looked into the containers of your toothbrushes lately? Remember, these cups or holders can accumulate water and breed germs and moulds. You don’t want that to get into something that you put inside your mouth, right?
2. Trash cans and bins – Of course you regularly empty the trash from inside the house and the huge trash bins that sit outside the house are collected by bin collectors routinely. Unfortunately, most homeowners disregard the cleanliness of these containers. This is because you easily place plastic trash bags in it to gather the trash but it is inevitable that stains, spills and overflows happen. This goes directly into the bins. Regularly hosing down and washing these containers will ensure safety and better cleanliness for your family.
3. Pop-up sink stoppers and drains – Cleaning the bathroom regularly does not only involve disinfecting the toilet bowls and scrubbing mould and mildew off the walls and tiles. Get into the pop-up sink stoppers and drains to check for build-up as well. While you are at it, check out the shower curtains too! These might be little things but they can have a huge build up of bacteria and moulds between all of them.
4. Hair brushes, remote controllers, and other bits and pieces – You don’t really put that much attention on hair brushes, remote controllers, steering wheels and door knobs when it comes to cleanliness. Everyone really should. These are day to day things that come in contact with your hands and your kids’ hands. Hair brushes accumulate not just hair but also dandruff and dust. Remote controllers, door locks and knobs and even your car’s steering wheel can collect dust, prints, and grime that can be passed on from one person to another and start a cough and cold fest! Wipe and disinfect these little things too!
It’s important that you go through every little thing inside your house to check and clean every once in a while. It is understandable that you cannot get to all of these as regularly as you can. But it’s a good thing that being conscious and knowing about cleaning and paying attention to these bits and pieces can help your checklist next spring cleaning!
