Well everyone is talking about the Diamond Jubilee so I thought I might as well too! I have read so many facts in news papers and websites and found some very interesting things out such as the following:-
The Queen is the second British monarch to celebrate 60 years on the throne. The last time there was a Diamond Jubilee was in 1897 for Queen Victoria.
Some facts and figures to digest:-
She has been on 261 overseas Royal visits, which have included Australia 16 times, Canada 22 times, Jamaica 6 times and New Zealand 10 times. I wonder which country was her favourite? She has sent over 3.5 million letters, over 45,000 Christmas Cards. You may or may not know but the queen sends letters to people who reach 100 years and in her reign 175,000 telegrams have been sent. She has sat down to 129 portraits of her being painted in her reign (that quite a lot of hours).
Another interesting fact is that if the Union Flag flies over Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Sandringham whenever the Queen is not in residence!
The Queen was given her first corgi in 1933, she has had a total of 30 corgis.
The Queen has attended 35 Royal Variety performances and currently is patron of over 600 charities and organisations. That must keep her very busy.
Well the streets are looking very patriotic with red, blue and white bunting and flags flying high. I hope all you people having street parties enjoy yourselves and of course I am looking forward to having a long weekend off work. Should you need your carpets or upholstery cleaned, please give RPC Cleaning a call.
