Today 25 April marks World Malaria Day.  Here are 8 facts about this killer disease.  Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease of humans and animals caused by parasitic protozoans.   If malaria is not diagnosed and treated promptly, it can be fatal.

1. In just 2012, there was an estimated 627,000 deaths

3. 80% of deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa
4. Approx 40% of global malaria deaths occur in just two countries: Nigeria and the Congo
