Your transaction with the landlord may or may not be the last one that you’ll have with him. Therefore, it’s important to leave a good impression. And even though you believe it’s going to be your last, following the Golden Rule is still the best way to go.

What are we driving at here?

Although it’s not totally your responsibility to keep the rented place completely clean after you vacate it, leaving it at least “broom clean” is the best thing to do.

Plus, don’t forget to do the following as well:

• Defrost the refrigerator
• Clean the microwave oven
• Clean the bathroom and shower
• At least vacuum all furniture within the premises
• Clean all eating or cooking utensils, if provided
• Put all rubbish in the designated bins
• Turn off all the lights and unplug all electrical sockets
• Lock the door before leaving

While it is expected that your stay in the property has left its footprint in terms of wear and tear, it is not polite to leave the property damaged.  Depending on your lease agreement, you can have it repaired prior to leaving the place, inform the landlord about the damage and/or discuss the payment terms to cover the necessary repairs.

If you are responsible for doing the repairs and can’t do the repair yourself, you can hire home and office maintenance professionals to do cost estimates to ensure that you get reasonable costs.

Moreover, chances are you might be too busy prepping up your new place to take care of deep cleaning the leased property.
