Lots of people find the intricacy and style of parquet flooring the answer to making their homes or commercial spaces look unique. There is certainly an elegance in the artistry that only parquet wood flooring gives to a room.

Parquet flooring can help to make a big impact on a home as each wooden block or square is made up of different pieces of wood. These small cutouts are arranged in angles and shapes that create a pattern or a unique flooring, wherever they are put together.

Most people choose parquet flooring not just for its lavish effect but also for the fact that it’s highly durable while still affordable. However, like most hardwood floors, it needs to be maintained regularly so that it doesn’t lose its lustre and polish. There is a charm to a worn out looking floor but keeping the parquet patterns looking like brand new is definitely a much better option.

It’s a bonus that parquet flooring is not difficult when it comes to maintenance. Although most of it can be done by the homeowner, it’s still highly advisable to get the help of professionals, especially when it comes to re-sealing and sanding portions of the entire room’s floor to make it look brand new.

Here are some useful tips on how to maintain and clean your parquet floors to withstand the daily dirt and grime brought about by wear from family members, pets or customers!

Sweep and vacuum regularly

One of the great things about having hardwood or wooden floors is that there are no fibres or crevices that dirt or dust can hide and cling onto. Unlike carpets that catch and hold anything that is spilt or dropped onto them, parquet floors can be easily cleaned using a sweeper, brush or a vacuum.

Regularly clean the floors with a vacuum just to get rid of dust and maintain polished looking floors. Also, if you have pets, clip their nails regularly to avoid them scratching the surface.

Avoid moisture damage

Wooden floors might be more resistant to gathering dust and bacteria but they can also be highly susceptible when it comes to moisture. Water or any liquid can be the bane of your wooden parquet floor if left unattended. Keep parquet floors dry and wipe up any spills, especially large ones, straight away. Also, manage the humidity in your house by using a dehumidifier on a regular basis.

When cleaning your parquet floors, only use products that are designed for hardwood floors to avoid any damage to the wood. Avoid the use of harsh chemicals or abrasive brushes and tools for cleaning also.

Eventually, your parquet flooring will need some good old buffering and sanding, just to ensure its keeps hold of its elegance and polish. Regularly re-sealing the finish is a good idea too. So, schedule a date with a professional cleaning team to do this very important job for you.
