How to make an easy cleaning checklist that anyone can benefit from

There are lots of people who have independently set up their own small businesses like cafes, shops and travel agencies etc. These compact enterprises usually don’t have a lot of employees working for them as they are either run by a small group of friends, business colleagues or even family. So, it’s natural that most of the office tasks are personally done by the owners and their partners and that includes keeping the space clean and customer ready.

Let’s face it; cleaning is a chore to do whether you are thinking of home or office upkeep. It is a “dirty” job, but someone has to do it! Bigger companies and office buildings can afford to hire professional cleaners as well as employ cleaning staff to do the everyday scrubbing, sweeping and wiping required to keep the office clean. Unfortunately, for those who are just starting out small and cannot afford to hire cleaning staff, the burden of keeping the place in tip top condition falls on the owner. Usually, they stay after working hours to clean up the whole place by themselves.

It is fortunate that often, most owners would rather see to their own cleaning to ensure a more thorough and pest-free space. That is why it’s important to create a cleaning schedule as well as have a ready-made checklist to cater for emergency cleanups that might arise. Armed with the essential cleaning supplies, maintaining the upkeep of one’s office or business area is less demanding and difficult.

Here are some quick tips to help anyone create a checklist for everyday cleaning tasks in both homes and offices.

Firstly, think of the important, must-have essential cleaning tools that people absolutely can’t do without. Think of basic equipment that a home or office will need. These are usually cheap, easy to find materials that are used to clean spaces day-to-day, like:

✓ Vacuum cleaners
✓ Mops
✓ Rubbish bin bags
✓ Paper towels
✓ Cleaning rags
✓ Toilet cleaners
✓ Soap, cleansers and disinfectant sprays
✓ Sponges and dish scrubbers
✓ Anti-bacterial soap
✓ Toilet brushes and plungers
✓ Dust pans and rubbish bins

Next, don’t forget to get special essentials that are used for particular instances like spills on rugs, wooden surfaces, glass windows and tables as well as workspace items like phones and computers etc… In short, list down stuff that is needed for heavy-duty cleaning like:

✓ Insecticides to keep mosquitoes and pesky pets from certain areas
✓ Disinfectant wipes for public phones, kitchens and computer keyboards
✓ Mixtures and cleansers that eliminate mould and mildew from bathroom tiles and toilets
✓ Micro fibre cloths
✓ Bleach, floor cleaning solutions
✓ Rubber gloves

Finally, it is not a bad thing to invest in professional cleaners every once in a while to do spring cleaning. This ensures that hard to reach places and more thorough cleaning can be done for the office or small business space. This could mean a monthly washing of carpets, upholstery and wooden floor maintenance. After all, sanitation of a publicly used area should be every business proprietor’s top priority.
